Russell Enterprises continues to pop out interesting books. This new book by Isaak and Vladimir Linder is the biography and games of “Alexander Alekhine, Fourth World Chess Champion.” Their historical research and interpretations are particularly interesting, and I consider a welcomed addition to my shelf of Alekhine books. We will look at some selected positions from the book for the next three days. Have fun trying to be Alekhine!

- Solution: If you picked 1.Nf7+ Rxf7 2.Bxf7 Bd7 you would win material, but it would take a while to reach victory and you would not be Alekhine! In 1908 he stunned Kohnlein with 1.Qxd6 Qxg2+ [taking the queen changes little: 1...cxd6 2.Nf7+ Kg8 3.Nxg5+ Kh8 4.Nf7+ Kg8 5.Nxd6+]2.Kxg2 cxd6 3.Nf7+ Kg8 4.Nxd6+ Kh8 5.Re7 and White is a piece up rather than the exchange up and has an overwhelming position.
