Rapper Meek Mill claimed he privately said sorry to Vanessa Bryant over a song lyric about Kobe that she described as “extremely insensitive and disrespectful.”

The lyric, which reportedly leaked last week, appeared to refer to Kobe Bryant’s 2020 death.

“I apologized to her in private earlier today not to the public,” Meek Mill tweeted Tuesday.

Meek Mill garnered backlash after the lyric, which is part of an untitled song, surfaced online.

“And if I ever lack, I’m going out with my choppa it’ll be another Kobe,” the lyric allegedly says.

Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, were among nine people killed in a helicopter crash in Southern California in January 2020.

Vanessa Bryant addressed the rap lyric on her Instagram story late Monday and tagged Meek Mill in the post.

“I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better than this,” she wrote. “If you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and tact.”

Kobe Bryant, a five-time NBA Finals champion with the Los Angeles Lakers, married Vanessa Bryant in 2001.

On Monday, Vanessa Bryant also reshared a supportive post from Chicago Sky star Candace Parker.

“I’m sorry YOU and your GIRLS have to continually deal with S—t like this,” Parker’s message reads.
