COPENHAGEN, Denmark -- Prince Henrik, the husband of Danish Queen Margrethe II, has died at the age of 83, the Danish royal palace announced early Wednesday.
Henrik died peacefully in his sleep late Tuesday at Fredensborg Palace, about 25 miles north of Copenhagen.
The queen and his two sons were at his side, the palace said.
The French-born prince had since last month been treated for a lung condition at the Rigshospitalet hospital in the capital before being moved to Fredensborg after his condition deteriorated.
