China: Mistresses help fight corruption

BEIJING (UPI) -- Chinese officials said tips given by mistresses of federal authorities are helping bring an end to rampant corruption.

About 80 percent of federal authorities taken into police custody on corruption charges in the city of Dongguan in southern China, were busted because of information given by their mistresses, CNN reported Thursday.

Zhou Yuefeng, deputy director of Dongguan's anti-graft bureau, said the women "gave us important information that we did not possess."

A law adopted last year requires that federal authorities found guilty of having mistresses be fired from their positions, the report said.

CNN reported that several Chinese officials have been busted in past years for stealing to take care of their mistresses.

The officials taken into custody in Dongguan were accused of taking bribes, authorities said.
