DENVER (UPI) -- Participants in an annual Argentine tango party in
Denver said more than 300 people danced at the outdoor event despite
rain early in the day.
The event, the ninth annual gathering organized by social group Tango
Colorado, celebrates Argentine tango, which evolved as an improv
street dance inspired by traditional ballroom tango.
Participants told The Denver Post that rains early Sunday in Denver
dampened the outdoor plaza at the city's Cheesman Park, but the skies
cleared and dancers said the event went off without a hitch.
Bob Stang, president of Tango Colorado, said nearly half of the people
who attended Sunday's dance traveled from out of town, and many came
from far-flung states.
"With tango, no matter where you go, you meet a lot of new friends.
When you're traveling, they teach you where to go, what to do and
where to eat," Stang said.
