Hawaii McDonald's use remote ordering
Melanie Okazaki of McDonald's in Hawaii said the remote ordering system was first tested in 2006 and began expanding in 2007, KITV in Honolulu reported Monday.
"We want to make sure that our customers get their orders right and they get them in the most convenient way possible," Okazaki said.
She said employees at the call center in El Paso, Texas, require special training to comprehend local phrases and accents.
"It takes a little getting used to on the order-taker's side, but I think with practice, they become more and more comfortable working with our local clientele," Okazaki said.

So why are they doing such a stupid thing? Simple: minimum wage is Hawaii is $7.25; in El Paso, it's $5.88.

Wow, I'm with Kitty--do we not want to train the person at the drive through to say: "Please drive up to window one to pay, and please follow up to window 2 to pick up your order"--I mean, is that so difficult? How outrageous!

That makes absolutely no sense at all. None. I can't believe for an instant that relaying orders to Texas and back is more efficient than properly training the person at window #1 to take the order to be picked up at window #2.
