WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (UPI) -- A Florida man who weighs 551 pounds asked a judge to nullify the rest of his 30-month house arrest sentence because he can't leave his home anyway.

Unfortunately for Steven Goodman, U.S. District Judge Kenneth Marra didn't buy his argument.

Goodman has about seven months left of the 30-month sentence Marra gave him for supplying more than one million oxycodones to "pain management" clinics that distributed the pills illegally.

The 70-year-old home inmate has only left his house three times since his 2012 sentencing. His doctors have allegedly told him that he only has 12 months to live, due to heart problems and an incurable disease of the lymph system.

"Each day may be one of his last," Goodman's attorney, Edward Page, wrote in his 10-page request, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Marra said that the only reason Goodman was sentenced to house arrest is because the state couldn't care for him. The judge noted that if Goodman was in prison, he would be unable to dress or bathe himself, and he would also have access to unlimited prison food.

"Defendant was spared a prison sentence, not as a favor to him, but in order to spare the Bureau of Prisons the burden of having to care for him," Marra wrote while denying the request. If defendant's health and obesity effectively confines him to his home, then continuation of that restriction will not adversely affect him.
