Hospital sentence for British axe killer

HULL, England (UPI) -- A British judge Monday sentenced a teenager who killed a retiree with an axe after losing a computer game to an indefinite stay in a high security hospital.

James Callaghan, 18, drank a bottle of vodka and then terrorized his neighborhood with an axe before killing 65-year-old Irene Robertson, the court heard Monday. Callaghan pleaded guilty to manslaughter on grounds of diminished responsibility.

The court heard testimony that Callaghan suffers from paranoid schizophrenia, Britain's Daily Mail newspaper reported.

Callaghan flew into a rage after losing a computer game against his brother and a friend in Hull, East Yorkshire, Dec. 28, 2008. He grabbed an axe and knife from his bedroom and began an alcohol-fueled rampage through neighborhood streets, attacking passers-by and killing Robertson in her house, the Mail said.

Callaghan can be released only on an order from Britain's Home Secretary or an independent panel headed by a judge, the paper said.

Here we go again with another Judge who can't see beyond the end of his nose!! Putting an axe murderer in a so called high security hospital!! WHY not prison where this killer belongs. Got away yet again by using the diminished responsibility act when he knew EXACTLY what he was doing, & WHY did this 18 year old have an axe & a knife in his bedroom anyway IF he was, as they have said a schitzophrenic. Don't try & fool us public with excuses, this nasty piece trashneeds to be locked up for life. What about the family of the lady Robertson, has no-one a care about them ??
