Morrissey hospitalized after collapsing

SWINDON, England (UPI) -- British singer Morrissey was hospitalized after crumpling to the stage Saturday during a concert in Swindon, England, officials said.

Witnesses said the 50-year-old singer appeared to be straining as he sang "This Charming Man" and fell to his knees on the stage at Oasis Leisure Centre, Sky News reported. Other band members dragged him off the stage.

The Great Western Ambulance Service received a call just after 9 p.m. reporting Morrissey was suffering respiratory problems and was unconscious, a spokeswoman said.

When rescue workers arrived, they found him conscious and his condition was not believed to be life-threatening, the spokeswoman said.

Morrissey, whose full name is Steven Patrick Morrissey, was taken to Great Western Hospital in Swindon, where he was in stable condition.

Morrissey, the former frontman for The Smiths, has canceled dates on his world tour because of concerns about his health, the Daily Mail reported.
