Who won Canada's first gold medal?

Canada’s first Olympic gold medal was won by a man competing for the United States. George Orton of Strathroy, Ontario took first place in the steeplechase at the 1900 Olympics in Paris, but because Canada didn’t have an official team he entered as part of the American team instead.

Olympic Gold

This is a rediculous story, and is impossible. You say Canada, didn't have a team so he had to compete for the United States team. If he was on the U.S. team he could not have won the gold for Canada, he won it for the United States, not our northern neighbor. Get yor facts straight please.
