Here is a list of foods that account for 90 percent of all allergic reactions to food:

Milk -- What to be aware of:
-- Traces of milk can be found in deli meats because slicers are often used for both meat and cheese
-- Canned fish and products labeled "non-dairy" often contains milk protein
-- Restaurants often put butter on entrees to add flavor

How to fill the milk void:
-- In most recepies, water or fruit juice can be substituted for milk. Also, there's always vegan milk.

Eggs -- What to be aware of:
-- Egg is often an ingredient in coffee foam toppings
-- Some egg substitutes contain egg whites
-- Pasta is also a source containing traces of eggs

How to fill the egg void:
-- Combining baking powder, water, and vinegar or water, oil, and vinegar creates a helpful egg substitute
-- Gelatin can also be used as an egg substitute in 'from scratch' recipes

Nuts -- what to be aware of:
-- Artificial nuts are often just reflavored nuts
-- Many oils are nut oils (i.e. arachis oil)
-- Many Asian dishes contain nuts or nut oils
-- Sunflowers seeds, ice cream, crackers, cereals, and breads are often in contact with nuts during preparation

How to fill the nut void:
-- Some people who are allergic to nuts are able to consume foods that only contain oils from nuts
-- 20 percent of people outgrow nut allergies

Fish -- what to be aware of:
-- Fish protein can become airborne when cooking
-- Restaurants will often cook seafood and other meats together
-- Ceasar dressing and steak sauce often contain anchovies
-- Imitation crab meats contain fish

How to fill the fish void:
-- Get lean protein from other meats such as turkey or chicken

Soy -- what to be aware of:
-- Soy products are found in many products such as cereals, baked goods, canned tuna, crackers, infant formulas, sauces, soups, spreads, and dieting products

How to fill the soy void:
-- Like nuts, people allergic to actual soy beans can safely consume soy bean oil

Wheat -- what to be aware of:
-- Some hot dog and ice cream brands contain wheat products
-- Decoration wreaths can contain wheat
-- Traces of wheat can be found in imitation crab meat
-- Asian dishes sometimes use wheat flour to stand in for meat such as beef, pork, chicken, and shrimp

How to fill the wheat void:
-- Rice, potato, soy, and corn flour can all be used in varying amounts and combinations to substitute for wheat flour
