DEAR STACY: I would like to know what else actress Alicia Witt has
been in besides "Law & Order: Criminal Intent"? I hope she sticks
around. -- Keith F., Brooklyn, N.Y.
DEAR KEITH: The red-haired 32-year-old is remembered by viewers of the
"Cybill" sitcom of 1995-1998, playing Cybill Shepherd's daughter,
Zoey. Her feature film credits include "Four Rooms" (as Madonna's
lover), "Mr. Holland's Opus," "Urban Legend," "Cecil B. DeMented,"
"Two Weeks Notice," "Vanilla Sky" and Al Pacino's recent "88 Minutes."
Her Det. Nola Falacci character on "Criminal Intent" was intended as a
temporary replacement for Julianne Nicholson's Megan Wheeler, when
Nicholson was away on maternity leave. Witt was then asked "to do a
few more" episodes in this latest, (and Chris Noth's last), season of
the show and said she was delighted: "I missed Falacci. She's a kick."
With Jeff Goldblum coming in as Noth's replacement in the eighth
season, launching in November, and new show runners, it's a matter of
speculation as to whether Falacci might make a return visit at some
point.
----
DEAR STACY: Deanna Durbin was a favorite. Any information about her
life after she dropped out of Hollywood? -- Bonnie C., Cleveland, Ohio
DEAR BONNIE: The hugely popular singer/actress of the 1930s and '40s
moved to Paris and retired from show business after her 1948 film,
"For the Love of Mary." She lived in France and Switzerland with her
third husband, her "Lady on a Train" director Charles David, until his
death in 1999. She had obviously had her fill of fame. It's been
reported that when they wed, David agreed to give her what, by then,
she wanted most: "the life of nobody." Now 86 years old and living in
the French village of Neauphlé-le-Château, the mother of a daughter
and a stepson continues to resist offers to be interviewed or return
to the U.S. for appearances of any kind.
----
DEAR STACY: What happened to Bruce Willis' right shoulder? -- Carl A.,
Bronx, N.Y.
DEAR CARL: The scar is a residual effect of complications from surgery
after Willis broke his arm at 17.
---
DEAR STACY: I would like to know how I can obtain a DVD or CD of the
NBC variety show that aired last year about America's top or best
choirs, with such artists as Nick Lachey, Michael Bolton, Kelly
Rowland and Ms. Patti LaBelle. Heard it was something to be seen. --
Nadine, N.Y.
DEAR NADINE: You're thinking of NBC's "Clash of the Choirs," which was
cancelled this past spring. Although it hasn't been released on disc,
you can view video clips of the show on NBC.com and YouTube.com.
----
DEAR STACY: Whatever happened to Valerie Perrine? -- Dave A.,
Brooklyn, N.Y.
DEAR DAVE: The Oscar-nominated ("Lenny") actress, 64, continues to
act, but infrequently. She was in the 2005 movies "The Californians"
(with Noah Wyle and Illeana Douglas) and "The Moguls" (with Jeff
Bridges and Ted Danson), plus an episode of "Third Watch." She's also
in first-time filmmaker Laurence N. Kaldor's eight-years-in-the-making
indie comedy, "Redirecting Eddie."
----
DEAR STACY: Please settle a bet. I say that Josh Meyers and Seth
Meyers are brothers. My friend says they're not related. Who wins? --
Brian P., Lake Elsinore, Calif.
DEAR BRIAN: You do. Obviously being funny runs in the family for Josh
("MAD TV") and his two-years-older sibling, Seth ("Saturday Night
Live").
----
DEAR STACY: Chris Pine is so handsome. Is he married? Steady
girlfriend? -- A.G., Euclid, Ohio
DEAR A.G.: The "Princess Diaries 2: A Royal Engagement" hottie, who
plays James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' forthcoming "Star Trek" movie, is
single. He told me recently that he sometimes uses the extensive
knowledge of wine that he picked up while making the movie "Bottle
Shock" to try to "impress certain ladies" -- a robust, spicy offering
with a smooth finish.
