Landon Donovan isn't named to Klinsmann's 23-player US roster for World Cup

SAN FRANCISCO -- Jurgen Klinsmann on Thursday named the USA's 23-player roster for the World Cup this summer, sending a shock wave through the domestic game by leaving out the country's most-capped active player and all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan.

Donovan, 30, was one of seven players in the 30-strong provisional squad who did not make the final cut.

"It's an exciting moment when you have narrowed the roster down as a coaching staff, and these 23 players that you've chosen can focus now purely on Brazil," Klinsmann said. "We can go into more specific things about technical approaches, and about the opponents."
