NHL: Buffalo 5, Carolina 1
It was the second time in as many games that Carolina had given up five goals in the final period and it kept the Hurricanes winless on the road this season.
"We aren't doing a good job closing out games," said Matt Cullen, who scored Carolina's only goal. "I don't know what it is; none of us know what it is, but we give up that goal and it's been a pretty regular occurrence that the next one goes in pretty quickly."
Cullen staked the Hurricanes to a 1-0 lead at 8:19 of the first period that held up until 1:59 of the third period when Michael Greer tied the game on wrist shot past Michael Leighton.
Greer's goal was followed by the eventual game-winner off the stick of Clark MacArthur on a power play at 4:33. Derek Roy, Thomas Vanek and Jochen Hecht also scored for Buffalo.
Leighton faced 24 shots in the game. Ryan Miller made 30 saves for the win.
