NBA: LA Clippers 106, Denver 99
The Clippers beat the Nuggets for the first time in eight tries.
Los Angeles had a 15-point cushion at the start of the final period, but Denver cut its deficit to five with a minute to play on a 3-pointer from J.R. Smith.
Carmelo Anthony had a chance to trim the Los Angeles lead to two, but he missed a 3-point try with 17 seconds remaining and Butler hit two free throws with 9 seconds left to ensure the victory.
Denver had a two-game winning streak snapped and lost for the fourth time this season.
The Clippers, who had dropped their previous two outings, got 18 points from Al Thornton and 13 from Chris Kaman.
Denver was led by Anthony with 37 points. He made 12-of-20 from the field and missed just once in 13 attempts from the foul line.
