NHL: Dallas 3, Detroit 1

DETROIT (UPI) -- Alex Auld stopped 31 of 32 shots Wednesday, leading the Dallas Stars to a 3-1 victory against the Detroit Red Wings.

Dallas had lost its last four contests when Auld was the starting goalkeeper but he ended the futility Wednesday, allowing only Henrik Zetterberg's ninth goal this season at 6:16 of the second period.

Matt Niskanen's first goal this season, at 3:52 of the second, gave Dallas a 2-0 lead and was the eventual game-winner, while Brad Richards and James Neal had two assists apiece for the Stars, who had lost two of three and five of seven.

Goalie Jimmy Howard was beaten three times on 32 shots for the Red Wings, whose three-game winning streak ended.

On the power play, Dallas went 2-for-5, while Detroit failed to convert any of its four man-advantage opportunities.
