Grossman's dad blasts Bears' QB woes
Grossman was much-maligned during his stint as the Bears' quarterback and now is a back-up to Houston Texans signalcaller Matt Schaub. Father Dan Grossman told Tuesday's Chicago Tribune that the poor performance of his son's successor, Jay Cutler, demonstrates that the Bears' organization is set up to produce lousy conditions for quarterbacks.
"Anybody who wants to dispute that ... all they can be labeled as is idiots," Grossman, a Bloomington, Ind., ophthalmologist, told the newspaper, citing a long history of futility at the position in Chicago.
Cutler, a Pro Bowl performer last year for the Denver Broncos, has thrown 17 interceptions in his first nine games with the Bears, the Tribune noted.
"And there is a reason that Rex went to Houston late (June 12, 2009), in my opinion," Grossman said. "It was because of all the baggage he had to carry coming out of Chicago. People were a little leery. The general managers were leery."
