NHL: Washington 4, Florida 1

SUNRISE, Fla. (UPI) -- Brendan Morrison scored a pair of goals and Brian Pothier had a goal and two assists Friday in the Washington Capitals' 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers.

Jose Theodore made 28 saves in the win that ended Washington's three-game losing streak.

Nathan Horton scored the only goal for the Panthers, who saw their three-game wining streak come to a close. Tomas Vokoun, who posted shutouts in his previous two starts, had 21 saves.

Washington's Tyler Sloan opened the scoring at 4:53 of the first period on a pass from behind the net into the slot by Chris Clark. The goal was the first allowed by Vokoun in more than 147 minutes.

Morrison made it 2-0 at 10:46 of the second period. The Caps took a 3-0 lead at 6:56 of the third period.

Horton scored on a power play at 10:28 of the third period to put Florida on the board, but Morrison knocked in an empty net goal as the game wound down.
