Diamondbacks re-sign pitcher Brandon Webb
The procedure, performed by Dr. Keith Meister in Arlington, Texas, on Aug. 4, came after the 2006 National League Cy Young Award decided he could not pitch through the 2009 season because of pain.
His only 2009 start was Opening Day against the Colorado Rockies.
"Since Brandon has recovered well from his surgery, we have decided to exercise his option," Arizona General Manager Josh Byrnes said Friday. "His accomplishments for our organization have been significant. We look forward to him returning to the mound. There's risk in everything."
Webb, 30, has pitched in seven major league seasons with an 87-62 record and a 3.27 ERA in 199 games (198 starts).
In 1,319 2/3 innings, he has 1,065 strikeouts and 435 walks.
