Yankees manager becomes highway helper
Girardi was going home after celebrating the team's win when he helped a driver get out of her wrecked car along a winding stretch of highway near the New Rochelle, CNN reported Friday.
"He wanted to make sure that if someone was in the car they were OK," Zillo said. "And then he wanted to help her get away from a dangerous position in the highway."
Police said the accident occurred on the eastbound lanes of the Cross County Parkway at the Hutchinson River Parkway, when the woman lost control of her car on a blind curve and crashed into a wall.
Police officers arrived at the accident scene soon after, Zillo said.
"The guy wins the World Series, what does he do? He stops to help," Westchester police officer Kathleen Cristiano told LoHud.com, a local news Web site.
"She had no idea who I was," Girardi said in a radio interview Thursday about the women he helped.
