Murray, Davydenko win at Valencia Open

VALENCIA, Spain (UPI) -- Scotland's Andy Murray and Russia's Nikolay Davydenko, the top two seeds, won their second round matches Thursday at the Valencia Open tennis tournament.

Murray, the top seed, beat Argentina's Leonardo Mayer 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, with the help of eight aces and three service breaks.

The Scotsman, playing for the first time since a six-week absence with six-week right wrist injury, became the third men's player with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal to win at least 60 matches this season.

He reached a quarterfinal for the 13th time in 16 tournaments.

Davydenko, the No. 2 seed, was a 6-3, 7-5 winner over Argentina's Juan Monaco.

Also winning Thursday were fourth-seeded Fernando Verdasco, the 2004 champion, seventh-seeded Tommy Robredo, Russian Mikhail Youzhny; and Albert Montanes, who won in a walk-over when fellow Spaniard David Ferrer, the defending champion, withdrew with a hamstring injury.
