NHL: Colorado 4, Phoenix 1

DENVER (UPI) -- Milan Hejduk led the Colorado Avalanche over the Phoenix Coyotes 4-1 Wednesday, scoring two goals and adding an assist.

Hejduk opened the scoring 57 seconds into the first period and ended it with 24 seconds remaining in the game.

Marek Svatos and David Jones got the other goals and Paul Stastny contributed three assists for the Western Conference-leading Avalanche.

Peter Budaj made 28 saves in his first start this season.

Ed Jovanovski scored a power-play goal and Ilya Bryzgalov blocked 25 shots for the Coyotes.
