Bowden: 'I'll name Andrews' replacement'

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (UPI) -- Florida State football Coach Bobby Bowden says he will decide who replaces retiring defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews.

Bowden, 79, has been under stinging criticism during his team's lackluster 4-4 season, with some critics calling for him to step down at the end of the season.

"I'll make the final decision, but I'll definitely get (offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher's) input, and very strongly," Bowden said during the ACC's weekly coaches' teleconference Wednesday.

Fisher will coach the Seminoles when Bowden retires or get a $5 million if Bowden doesn't bow out by Jan. 1, 2001, the Florida Times-Union reported.

Andrews, 68, confirmed Tuesday he will retire following after the 2009 season. This is Andrews' 26th season at FSU and 47th overall in coaching. He coached 18 first-round NFL draft defensive picks in his first 25 years at the Tallahassee school.

The Seminoles have won two national championships, but have not won at least 10 games in a single season since 2003.
