Kaberle takes top NHL weekly honor

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Tomas Kaberle was selected No. 1 of the three NHL stars of the week, the league said Monday.

The league honors three top players each week. Joining Kaberle for play in games Oct. 26-Nov. 1 are goaltenders Pekka Rinne of Nashville and Evgeni Nabokov of San Jose.

Kaberle had two goals and 10 assists to lead the NHL with 12 points last week. He had a career-best five points in a win at Anaheim last Monday and added a goal and three assists in a shootout loss at Montreal.

He moved into second place on the Maple Leafs' all-time list of points by a defenseman, piling up 450 points in his 11-year career.

Rinne was 3-0-0 last week. He had a shutout over Chicago and posted a 0.76 goals against average on the week.

Nabokov was also 3-0-0. He had 77 saves and didn't allow more than one goal in any of the three games. Nabokov's week GAA was 0.97.
