WASHINGTON (UPI) -- Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin, injured in
a game against Columbus, says he is on day-to-day status.
"I can't tell you how I got hurt," Ovechkin said in an nhl.com report
Monday. "It's day-to-day, but just in case I didn't go back on the
ice."
Ovechkin was referring to his departure during the second period of
the Caps' 5-4 overtime loss Sunday to the Blue Jackets. Ovechkin
seemed to be favoring his left shoulder as he left the game.
Capitals Coach Bruce Boudreau said Ovechkin, a left wing, had an
"upper body" injury, The Washington Times said. The team provided no
further details.
Ovechkin is the NHL scoring leader with 14 goals and 23 points in 14
games. He took only one shot before leaving the Columbus game.
The Capitals' next game is Wednesday in Newark, N.J., against the New
Jersey Devils.
