Keflezighi, Tulu win at New York Marathon

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Meb Keflezighi became the first American man to win the New York Marathon in more than 20 years Sunday, finishing in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 15 seconds.

Keflezighi came in 41 seconds ahead of Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot of Kenya.

The previous American winner of the race was Ibrahim Hussein in 1987.

Ethiopia's Derartu Tulu won the women's competition in 2:28:52, 8 seconds ahead of Ludmila Petrova of Russia.
