David Kim leads PGA AT&T National

BETHESDA, Md. (UPI) -- Defending champion David Kim shot a record 8-under-par 62 Thursday and holds a two-stroke lead after the first round of the PGA AT&T National in Bethesda, Md.

World No. 1 Tiger Woods shot 6-under 64 and shares second place with D.A. Points and Bryce Molder.

Kim played a bogey-free 18 holes Thursday, making six birdies on his last nine holes. The 62 bettered the 63s shot by both Tom Pernice Jr. and Peter Lonard last year.

"I'd like to say it was just me playing fantastic golf, but I got a couple good breaks along the way," the 24-year-old Kim said after the lowest round in his third season on the PGA Tour.

Woods founded the Fourth of July Weekend tournament that benefits his foundation and pays tribute to members of the U.S. Armed Forces.

"Today I hit a lot of putts on-line (and) some went in," he said.
