MLB: Philadelphia 3, N.Y. Mets 0

NEW YORK (UPI) -- Brett Myers allowed three hits over eight innings Friday and the Philadelphia Phillies opened a key series by blanking the New York Mets 3-0.

The Phillies ended New York's four-game winning streak and moved to within two games of the division-leading Mets in the National League East.

Myers (9-10) walked two and struck out 10 before giving way to Brad Lidge in the ninth. Lidge put two runners on with one out before retiring Carlos Beltran and Ryan Church on fly balls to end the game and record his 34th save.

Chase Utley drove in a run in the first with a ground out and Greg Dobbs hit a two-run homer in the seventh.

All three runs were scored off Mike Pelfrey (13-9), who allowed four hits over seven innings.

As with all outdoor sporting events in the northeast this weekend, Saturday's Phillies-Mets game will likely be placed in jeopardy by the foul weather associated with Tropical Storm Hanna.
