Ian Kinsler to have season-ending surgery

ARLINGTON, Texas (UPI) -- All-star second baseman Ian Kinsler of the Texas Rangers will undergo season-ending hernia surgery, the club announced Friday.

Kinsler led the majors in hits (165) and runs (102) when he went on the disabled list Aug. 18. He was batting a career-best .319 with 41 doubles, 71 RBI and 26 steals.

He is expected to be fully recovered by the start of spring training next February.
