Zambrano sidelined by shoulder ailment
The hard-throwing righthander lasted only 86 pitches in five innings in his start against the Houston Astros on Tuesday, and his ailment was diagnosed during an MRI examination by team orthopedic specialist Stephen Gryzlo.
"We look at hopefully getting him a start the last day of the trip in Houston," said general manager Jim Hendry on the team's Web site.
Zambrano was placed on the disabled list in June because of shoulder discomfort.
This season, he is 13-5 with a 3.58 ERA, 64 walks and 117 strikeouts in 27 starts (171 1/3 innings).
He has been given anti-inflammatory medication.
"Obviously, he'll have to get his strength back from not pitching," Hendry told the Chicago Tribune. "Once the shot takes its proper course, he'll begin throwing in St. Louis."
