MLB: Cincinnati 8, Pittsburgh 6

CINCINNATI (UPI) -- Joey Votto's eighth inning RBI single Thursday helped the Cincinnati Reds pull out an 8-6 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Cincinnati scored three times in the eighth to erase a 6-5 deficit and avert a three-game sweep.

Wilkin Castillo scored the tying run on a one out wild pitch by losing pitcher Craig Hansen (0-3) and Edwin Encarnarcion capped the rally with a sacrifice fly. Votto also hit a fifth inning solo homer.

Jay Bruce launched a solo shot in the second and Jeff Keppinger drove in a pair.

Chris Dickerson also had two hits and six other players had one hit each for the Reds, who have split their last 10 games. The winning pitcher was Nick Masset (1-0).

Francisco Cordero recorded his 27th save.

Pittsburgh's Chris Gomez had two hits, one a two-run second inning homer.

Nate McLouth hit a solo shot in the eighth and three others had one RBI for the Pirates, losers in 8 of theor last 10 games overall.
