Vijay Singh to join players in Shanghai

SHANGHAI, China (UPI) -- Fiji native Vijay Singh has committed to play in the 2008 HSBC Champions in Shanghai this fall.

He has added his name to the tournament's growing list of world-class golfers, including defending champion and world No. 2 Phil Mickelson, and world No. 4 Padraig Harrington.

Singh, 45, rose to No. 3 in the world behind No. 1 Tiger Woods and Mickelson earlier this week by winning the Deutsche Bank Championship.

"Obviously, I feel incredible right now," he said after the Deutsche Bank Championship gave him a second straight tournament victory and made him the favorite to earn the $10 million prize that goes to the overall winner of the PGA Tour's FedEx playoff battle. "I'm doing better on the greens than I've ever done."

Others entered in the Shanghai event include Sergio Garcia (No. 5), Henrik Stenson (No. 6), 2008 Masters champion Trevor Immelman, and world No. 11 Adam Scott.

The tournament will be played Nov. 6-9 at the Sheshan International Golf Club.
