$2 million Mile (turf)
Sand Cove rallied to the lead early in the stretch run in Sunday's $125,000 (Canadian) Vice Regent Stakes for 3-year-olds at Woodbine and held off Delaforce at the end to win by 1/2 length. Cappal Mor was third. Queen's Plate winner Not Bourbon was scratched with a minor injury. Sand Cove, an Ontario-bred Bold Executive colt, ran the 1 mile on firm turf in stakes-record time of 1:33.76 in his turf debut. He had a work over it and he worked very well," said Roger Attfield, who trains both Sand Cove and Not Bourbon. "I wasn't really sure if I was going to run him against Not Bourbon, to be honest. It was only a couple of hours ago that they told me that the horse had hurt himself in the stall. I said, 'Well, it's a good thing I hadn't taken him out.'"
