SOUTH BEND, Ind. (UPI) -- Notre Dame Coach Mike Brey has agreed to a
two-year extension that will keep him with the Fighting Irish men's
basketball team through the 2014-15 season.
The two-time reigning Big East Coach of the Year led the Irish to a
25-8 record last season, including a program-best 14-4 conference
record.
Fifth-seeded Notre Dame lost to fourth-seeded Washington State 61-41
in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Notre Dame lost just one
senior and returns Big East Player of the Year Luke Harangody.
In his eight seasons coaching Notre Dame, Brey has a 167-86 record and
five NCAA Tournament appearances. He is the only coach in the 102-year
history of the program to lead his teams to three consecutive 20-win
seasons and three straight NCAA tournament berths in his first three
years at the helm.
After nine seasons (1987-95) as assistant coach under Mike Krzyzewski
at Duke, Brey took the head coaching job at Delaware before taking
over at Notre Dame.
