NEW YORK (UPI) -- Alex Rodriguez finished off a nine-run seventh
inning with a three-run homer Wednesday, lifting the New York Yankees
to an 18-7 blasting of Texas.
Jason Giambi put New York in front with a grand slam in the third,
only to see the Rangers rally behind two-run homers from Milton
Bradley and Chris Davis.
Texas held a 7-6 edge going into the seventh, but the Yankees feasted
on reliever Warner Madrigal, who was making his major league debut.
New York sent 12 men to the plate in the inning and Madrigal (0-1)
retired only one batter while allowing six runs on five hits. Jamey
Wright gave up another six runs while working the final 1 2/3 innings.
Edwar Ramirez (2-0) got the win with two scoreless innings in relief
of Sidney Ponson.
Ponson started the season with the Rangers, but was kicked off the
team for an off-the-field incident that team officials have refused to
discuss.
The clubs combined for 25 runs after scoring a combined eight during
the first two games of the series -- both won by the Rangers.
