VANCOUVER, British Columbia (UPI) -- The Vancouver Canucks have
offered former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin a record $20
million two-year contract.
The team's new general manager, Mike Gillis, said in a conference call
that Sundin said he would sleep on Tuesday's offer at his home in
Stockholm.
"Our offer makes Mats the highest paid player in the league, so I'm
optimistic that we've made the best offer he can receive," Gillis
said.
Meanwhile, Gillis said the team had acquired Darcy Hordichuk,
215-pounder known as a tough guy in his three years with the Nashville
Predators who racked up 747 penalty minutes in 302 games, the
Vancouver Sun said.
The report said his deal was for three years at $750,000 per season.
Center Kyle Wellwood, acquired last week on waivers from the Toronto
Maple Leafs, accepted his qualifying offer for $997,500, the Sun said.
