CHICAGO (UPI) -- The Chicago Blackhawks signed defenseman Brian
Campbell and goalie Cristobal Huet Monday on the NHL's first day of
free agency.
Chicago signed Campbell, 29, to an eight-year contract. Campbell, one
of the top free agents on the market, had an eight-goal, 54-assist
campaign with Buffalo and San Jose last season.
The Blackhawks gave up 235 goals last season. Chicago finished with a
40-34-8 mark, which placed it 10th position in the Western Conference.
Huet, a 32-year-old Frenchman, was 32-14-6 with Montreal and
Washington last season. He had four shutouts and a 2.32 goals against
average while finishing the regular season with a nine-game winning
streak.
