MIAMI (UPI) -- Miguel Olivo's two-run, eighth-inning homer gave Kansas
City a four-run lead Friday and the Royals barely held on to nip
Florida 7-6.
Florida scored twice in both the eighth and ninth innings to throw a
scare into the Royals, who managed to win their fifth straight.
Kansas City had a 7-4 advantage going into the bottom of the ninth,
but Jeremy Hermida hit a two-run homer with one out off Joakim Soria
to bring the Marlins within one. Soria then struck out Hanley Ramirez
and Jorge Cantu to end the game and earn his 11th save.
Brett Tomko (2-4) gave up five hits with a walk and struck out four
over six innings to get the win and halt a personal four-game losing
streak.
Andrew Miller (3-3) suffered the loss by giving up four runs on five
hits in five innings.
The Marlins have dropped four straight.
