CLIFTON, N.J. (UPI) -- Heavy rains Friday forced cancellation of the
second round of the LPGA Tour's Sybase Classic, reducing the event to
54 holes.
Although several players had teed off when play was halted, their
partial scores will be wiped out.
Tour officials originally gave thought to playing 36 holes Sunday, but
that idea was eventually abandoned.
"The problem is our forecast on Sunday is not looking great, either.
So that doesn't help us," said Sue Witters, director of tournament
competitions for the LPGA.
Annika Sorenstam, who announced Tuesday she planned to retire at the
end of the current season, shared the first-round lead at 5-under 67
with Song-Hee Kim and Rachel Hetherington.
Lorena Ochoa, ranked No. 1 in the world, was one shot back.
