BLACKSBURG, Va. (UPI) -- The Norfolk (Va.) Virginian Pilot reported
that Virginia Tech football recruit Peter Rose faces felony drug
charges after a 10-month police investigation.
In a report by deputies in the Amherst County, Va. sheriff's office,
Rose, 18, was arrested for allegedly selling marijuana to a deputy
posing as a high school student.
He and six current and former students face two charges of
distribution of marijuana -- a misdemeanor -- and two felony charges
of distribution of drugs within 1,000 feet of a school.
"This morning's news was as much a shock to me as anybody," Rose's
former coach, Scott Abell, told the newspaper.
Rose accepted a football scholarship to Virginia Tech in February.
He led his high school to Virginia's Group AA state championship last
fall with 1,133 passing yards and 1,790 yards rushing. Overall, he
accounted for 40 total touchdowns.
