Next up: Kings vs. Blackhawks

First look: Kings vs. Blackhawks

Schedule: Game 1: Sunday at Chicago, noon. PDT.

Regular-season series: Kings lost, 3-0. Two of the Kings' losses came in December, when goalie Jonathan Quick was out with a groin strain, but those were actually the Kings' two best defensive games. They lost to Chicago, 3-1, with Ben Scrivens in goal, then lost, 1-0, with Martin Jones in goal. When Quick returned, the Blackhawks beat the Kings, 5-3, at Staples Center on Feb. 3. Similarly, Chicago backup goalie Antti Raanta stopped 47 of 48 shots in two games against the Kings when Corey Crawford was injured.

How they match up: It's a rematch of last year's Western Conference final, and that didn't go well either for the Kings, who lost in five games. The good news for the Kings is that they're healthier than they were last year, and that the games against Chicago have been relatively tight. Four of the last eight meetings have been one-goal games. The bad news for the Kings is that they seem to be at a stylistic disadvantage against the Blackhawks, who have a deep group of forwards and move the puck with speed. Patrick Kane scored two goals in the season series, but seven other Blackhawks scored a goal against the Kings.
