Browns to get 'Swagger,' live bull mastiff mascot

Browns fans won't be the only ones barking at FirstEnergy Stadium in the fall.

The Browns, famous for their Dawg Pound cheering section, are planning to incorporate a real bull mastiff named "Swagger" into their game-day experience, team spokesman Rob McBurnett said Monday. One idea being kicked around is the canine leading the team onto the field before home games during the season.

Some fans have voiced complaints about the dog's name via social media, but the team did not name the dog. The dog had already been named before the Browns considered using it.

The Browns will become the latest NFL team to use a live animal as part of their game-day festivities. The Seattle Seahawks have a hawk named Taima. The Denver Broncos showcase a white Arabian horse named Thunder. The Baltimore Ravens use ravens named Rise and Conquer.

The Browns' plans to incorporate a real dog were revealed in a recent radio interview 92.3 The Fan conducted with Kevin Griffin, the team's vice president of fan experience and marketing.
