Top punters and kickers in the NFL draft

Player Pos. School Ht. Wt.

Chris Boswell K Rice 6-2 185

Has the leg strength to succeed in the NFL; made 13 college FGs of 50 yards-plus.

Kirby Van Der Kamp P Iowa State 6-4 202

Lefty dropped 99 career punts inside 20; frequently faced windy conditions in Ames.

Anthony Fera K Texas 6-1 211

Penn State transfer missed only two of 22 FGs in 2013; also handled punting chores.

Tom Hornsey P Memphis 6-3 221

Ray Guy Award winner in 2013 with 45.2 gross/41 net; is from Geelong, Australia.

Cairo Santos K Tulane 5-8 164

Native of Brazil won Lou Groza Award in 2012 when he made 21 of 21 FGs.

Iowa State's Van Der Kamp was successful on all seven of his fake punts over his college career -- five times on runs and twice on passes.

"He's definitely somebody I look up to. I've been to a Texans game this past year, and then when he played for the Raiders, me and my dad got tickets just so we could watch Lechler warm up. We got tickets behind the bench." -- Houston Cougars P Richie Leone, on Houston Texans P Shane Lechler.

On average about two punters and two place-kickers get drafted each year, with almost all of them going in the late rounds. That figures to be the case again this year.

Not this year. The Rams have one of the NFL's best young tandems in Pro Bowl P Johnny Hekker and PK Greg "The Leg" Zuerlein. They've also signed a camp leg in punter/kicker Bobby Cowan.
