Mubarak reflects on 1973 Yom Kippur War
Mubarak, quoted in an article published in a local armed forces journal Monday, said Egypt and Syria's initial victories in the October 1973 conflict eased Arab bitterness over Israel's victory in the 1967 Six-Day War, and ultimately put the two nations on a path of peaceful coexistence, the Israeli Web site Ynetnews.com reported.
"The October war opened the road to peace, to growth and to stability, and breathed new life into the nation," Mubarak reportedly said. "It gave it faith in its ability to face challenges."
But, he warned, terrorism still must be reckoned with as a force that could derail the relationship, saying, "the dangers of terror and stability shocks threaten our region."
