Catholics: Anglicans must accept pope

LONDON (UPI) -- Britain's top Roman Catholic prelate says disgruntled Anglicans must accept the pope's authority if they wish to convert because of Church of England reforms.

Rev. Vincent Nichols, the Archbishop of Westminster and the most senior Catholic in England and Wales, warned Friday anyone who bolts the Church of England for Catholicism because of the ordination of female priests or its stance on homosexuality is making a mistake, The Guardian reported.

"It must be a positive desire in the heart – not questions of the ordination of women to the episcopate, not questions of sexual ethics -- but it must center round the understanding of the role of the office of the bishop of Rome," Nichols told the newspaper. "A person must be embracing of that concrete aspect of Catholic life, which is the authority of the Holy See in the person of the pope, if they are going to make this journey with integrity."

A conversion, Nichols said, wouldn't mean just "picking bits of the Catholic faith."

Nichols made the comments before a meeting between Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams and Pope Benedict XVI over a Vatican initiative allowing Anglicans to retain parts of their spiritual heritage, the Guardian said.

A statement made by Melody.

"Unbelievable, why would the church of England bow down to pope. Church need to kneel down before Jesus and not the pope."

If the trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is within each Christian, why should we not bow to the pope, whom God has placed as our authority.

In the Catholic Church, infants are baptized with water, in the name of The Father, The Son Jesus, and The Holy Spirit. Then anointed with Blessed Oil as priest, prophet, and king.

I don't have a problem bowing to other Christians. During Mass, after we all say the "Our Father" (The Lord's Prayer), at the sign of peace, we bow to those around us. We also bow to the priest and ministers of the Eucharist prior to receiving Jesus' Body and Blood.

God is bringing His Church together! He is drawing Priests and lay people from other Christian denominations whose leaders are not following His Word.

Praise God!

Melody finds it "unbelievable" that Anglicans who want to convert to Catholicism would have to recognize papal authority over the Catholic Church. How does she think it possible to join any organization and NOT recognize the authority of its leader. ? Obviously, based upon her other remarks, her words spring from an ingrained prejudice against the CC.

Jesus speaking to the Apostle Peter: "You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in Heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in Heaven." (Matthew 16:18,19)

The giving of authoritative teaching and the lifting or imposing the ban of excommunication. Peter's exercise of authority in the church on earth will be confirmed in Heaven.

Peter was the first leader (pope) of the Catholic (universal) church, formerly undivided.

"Let every person be subordinate to the higher authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been established by God. Therefore, whoever resists authority opposes what God has appointed, and those who oppose it will bring judgement upon themselves." (Romans 13:1,2) Civil and religious authority.

papal authority

Are we forgetting the Christian Martyrs, dark ages and persecutions done by Catholic Church. God is calling us to work for him, to repent and follow him, not the pope.

We cannot afford to go backwards, we have to move forward, Jesus is coming soon!

Wake up all the nations! have faith in God, He promised he will deliver us from sin and make us holly nation. Brethren, remember we are not born homosexual, it is a sin and shouldn't be tolerated and encouraged by the church.Church should teach morality and preach God.

Lord is coming soon and the time of Tribulation is in front of us,it is up to us on which side we are going to be. God gave us free will and explained everything in Bible, his whole plan to save us and bring us back home! Allelujah
