Synod: Africa needs 'saintly politicians'
The bishops released a statement at a news conference following their meeting in Rome, Catholic News Service reported. They said many Roman Catholic officials in African countries are corrupt and urged them to resign and "stop causing havoc to the people and giving the Catholic Church a bad name."
Africa needs "saintly politicians who will clean the continent of corruption, work for the good of the people and know how to galvanize other men and women of good will from outside the church to join hands against the common evils that beset our nations," the bishops' statement said.
The 275 members of the bishops' synod also praised Muslim leaders in Africa for supporting freedom of religion. And the bishops said abstinence and faithfulness, not condoms, will halt the spread of AIDS.

As Christians we were instructed by Jesus to "Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15)
"Go therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." (Matthew 28:19)
The moral teaching found in the Gospel of Matthew: The sermon on the mount. The commandments of Jesus are the standard of Christian conduct. (Matthew 5-7)
Jesus said to his disciples, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." (John 20:21)
Many posting their comments here claim to be Christian, yet they continually run down the Catholic Church--first formed by Jesus' Apostles. Peter was the first pope. "Thou are Peter (the rock) and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys (authority) to the kingdom of heaven." (Matthew 16:18,19)
No one can force others to accept and follow the commandments of Jesus. All we can do, is follow Jesus' instructions to His apostles.

Sets off bigots
Any mention of the Catholic Church - even one dealing with non-religious matters- causes its most indoctrinated haters to vent their bile. This has always been so, and will continue to be -as Christ said it would. Notwithstanding sneering references to people in the Third World by some of its attackers- as displayed here- The CC also obeys Christ's order to take Christianity to all parts of the world, and will contine to do so.

Third world countries are the last hope for the Roman Church. The people there are just graduating from Witch Doctors, Switching superstitions to a Mythological godhead who promises life everlasting, after one's death, is the Vatican's specialty. After all, the unenlightened aged and the uneducated immigrants from third world South American and Asiatic poor still signifies their strength and growth in the good ol' USA..
