Tales from the ArcaMax Chef

One of the Jungle Boys was complaining the other day about being bored. We have heard these complaints at various times during the summer. I think the intent of such a statement is to elicit sympathy from She Who Must Be Obeyed (my wife) and me. I believe the hope is that She or I will take pity and say something like "I'm sorry dear, let's go to a movie."

Under certain circumstances, such a reaction is entirely possible. She and I love doing fun things with the Jungle Boys. However, the Jungle Boys are not very adept with their timing. You see, the "I am bored" statements usually come around the same time that the garbage is overflowing (one of the Jungle Boys' chores), the Jungle Boys rooms are complete messes, She has just finished cleaning the house and I have just finished working in the yard.

As a result, the reaction is usually not what the Jungle Boy had planned. My usual reply in such circumstances is "I've got something for you to do." She’s reaction is along the same lines but with a little more passion.

This most recent "I am bored" session happened this week. This time, however, the reaction from She was different than it had been all summer. This time She smiled broadly and calmly stated, "I'm so sorry. But things will soon be much better for you. School starts next week."

Somewhere under a bed, the Jungle Boy's brain shuddered.

God Bless America.

Enjoy!
