Poll: GOP poised in 2010, but big win iffy

PRINCETON, N.J. (UPI) -- Republicans may have a good midterm election in 2010, but it may not be enough to regain control of the U.S. House, a Gallup Poll released Monday indicated.

Gallup's latest survey of the 2010 elections showed 46 percent of registered voters said they would support the Democratic candidate in their local district if the election were held today, compared to 44 percent who would vote for the Republican candidate.

The results are slightly better for Republicans than the Gallup poll in July, which showed Democrats were up by 50 percent to 44 percent, the Princeton, N.J., polling agency said.

Gallup said it measures voting intentions in midterm elections by using the generic congressional ballot, which it said has been an accurate predictor. The size of the lead among registered voters provides better insight than simply which party is ahead, the pollster said.

The reason the GOP is competitive in congressional elections is that Republicans generally turn out to vote at higher rates than Democrats, and midterm elections tend to have lower voter turnout than general elections, Gallup said.

The poll was conducted Oct. 1-4. No sampling number or margin of error was given.

You right-wing nuts need to thank Palin,Beck,Rush, teabaggers and Fox News Opinion Channel you lost 2 key house seats in NY-23 and CA-2 districts. What you seen last night was local issue not national thats the big diffrence idiots. We will let the Repulicans take care of the small local issues while the Dems.take care of national and world issues which takes brains and hardwork which you Republicans couldn't do for the last 8 years.

Ridiculous premise!

"if the election were held today," but the election is not going to be held today and as we saw yesterday, a lot can happen in a year and it should be a warning shot across the bow of the sinking ship of state with a Democrat President at the helm that he needs to change course or take the risk of getting blown out of the water. To ignore the warnings of the lookouts in the crow's nest is to jeopardize the lives of all aboard, not just those who are part of the operating crew.

So only those who are truly concerned show up during midterm elections for local or state representatives while those who think the Presidency is the only position that really counts show up every four years, unconcerned liberals, obviously, and Democrats who don't care, if the election losses are any indication! So what is it they actually want? They want something for nothing and that is not just, but if the administration has its way, that is what they will get. Now, who is representative? Who truly wants change? We are watching.

Even #3 The word is ACORN was out in force---bussed in lots of voters? ( Some voters were turned away as they were told they had already voted Absentee! And most requests for absentee ballots--the signatures don't match! The demos want all those counted!) And will steal the election for Corzine! Or they will "Frankin" him! The fix is in----- And is it possible that the people who call themselves "republicans" are taking more interest in the running of the country? While the people calling themselves Democrats are happy if the welfare checks just keep coming??
