Pelosi to unveil healthcare reform bill

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is set to outline broad healthcare overhaul legislation that will include a government-run insurance option, aides said.

Pelosi plans to meet with House Democrats Thursday morning before a rally outside the U.S. Capitol to announce details of the measure. House Democratic leaders hope to send the bill to the House floor by next week, with a final vote before Nov. 11, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Unlike the bill favored by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., states could not "opt out" of the public option in the House measure. Pelosi said the public option would compete with private insurers but the government would negotiate rates with doctors and hospitals instead of linking reimbursement to Medicare rates.

The plan would meet President Barack Obama's goals, costing less than $900 billion over a decade while not increasing the deficit, the Times said. It would increase the surtax threshold so it would be levied against married couples with adjusted gross incomes of more than $1 million and individuals over $500,000.

The measure is expected to expand Medicaid to cover those who earn 150 percent of the poverty level, or about $33,000 a year for a family of four, The Miami Herald reported.

Employers would have to offer coverage to employees or pay penalties, as would individuals who don't purchase coverage.

I'm sorry but I don't care how good any proposed health plan is, I will never support it as long as the government is allowed to practice extortion and get away with it. That is exactly what it is when I do not have the right to choose which option I want or do not want without being penalized if I do not make the choice the government wants me to make.

Extortion is against the law, and the law needs to be enforced. I don't care who you are - even if you are the President of the United States or the Speaker of the House. I will not be strongarmed into having my choices taken away from me and neither should any other American. This should make every citizen's blood boil with indignation!

Control over the population just like Hitler! You are so right Redneck! Too bad the mothers of Reid, Peloske and Obama didn't believe in abortion like they do!

Here we go again!

Same as before! The health care part isn't important to them! Only the access to our bank accts. UNLIMITED! No control over the amount siezed from us! But no control over healthcare either! Of course if you look ahead-----a person able to hide their assets won't have to pay anything! (Think CEO's Swiss bank accounts) sooo--------The only way they can make this work is the "Cashless Society" The machines were manufactured and delivered years ago! But Klinton's "I want everybody to have this card!" was recognized by congress for what it really was and voted down!!! Wanna bet that this version also gives unlimited healthcare to minoritys? For free! And rations healthcare to "Whitey" but emptys our bank accounts?
