It's unanimous: McCain is GOP nominee

ST. PAUL, Minn. (UPI) -- Delegates to the Republican National Convention officially nominated Sen. John McCain as the party's presidential candidate Wednesday in St. Paul, Minn.

McCain's state, Arizona, initially passed in declaring its vote. Then, with 1,170 votes for McCain, state after state passed until the RNC secretary called Arizona's name again. This time, the state cast all 53 votes for the 72-year-old Vietnam War hero, putting him over the 1,191 threshold.

Alaska, home to vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin, split its votes: 24 for McCain and 5 for Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, who dropped out of the Republican presidential primary.

When Wyoming cast its 14 votes, McCain captured 2,372 votes, Paul received five and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney got two.

On a motion from a Virginia delegate, the delegates by voice vote agreed to make the vote for McCain unanimous.

"This convention's unanimous choice for the office of the president of the United States is Sen. John McCain," said House Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio and permanent convention chairman.

McCain will deliver his acceptance speech Thursday to close the convention.

My ex husband is a Republican. He is a union member, and he would just wait for a baby to be born, and then abuse the child.

Really, the Democrats are 90% of the criminals. It seems to me the republican party has had its same share of criminals in just the last eight years. You are starting to remind me of someone named Crone who writes in here. Anger, hate, you really should look to Jesus yourself.

Democrats promote abortion, homosexuality, the redefinition of marrige an say the war is AMERICA'S fault.

Hey Kathie: Instead of banning guns (which won't make you safer, since criminals will still have them) why don't you stand for DECENCY.

Lets get rid of the DEMOCRATS (by voting them out) since THEY are at least 90 percent of the criminals which is why the party wants felons to vote.

First of all I am not a Democrat. I am an Independent. Second, I am afraid of guns. I was married to a man who had numerous guns, and I was threatened with these guns numerous times. My daughter tried to call the police once while her father was beating me, and her father threatened to kill her if she picked up the phone. After finally being able to escape from this situation, I found this same man at the door of my new residence. I would not open the door, so he tried to break it down. Fortunately, he left when he heard me calling the police. Unfortunately, the police went to his home after speaking to me, and told him to just stay away, because I was not worth it for him to go to jail. I'm not looking for sympathy here, but if the police react this way, then it is time for gun control, because there a lot more idiots out there than the one I married.

McCain/Palin

You Democratic morons had ought to get a clue and soon, for the future is about change and McCain/Palin are going to bring it. Gun Toting is common in more of America than you understand. I was a cop for a few years and all the homes I was in during those years had many firearms, so get real. Just because they scare the pants off of you doesn't mean that the rest of us feel that way. Oh...but thats right, that is the way Dumbocrats think. Their view is the only view. Guess again and we will see in November and better yet during the debates coming soon! Go McCain and Palin in '08!
